A photograph of the homecoming to Donnington of Colonel Francis Cecil Ricardo from serving in the Boer War in South Africa. The photograph was taken by John William Righton on the 17th May 1901. Colonel Ricardo served as acting chief constable of Berkshire County Constabulary during the First World War and served as High Sheriff of Berkshire twice in 1894 and 1913. In 1920, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his police work.
