Roman drill bit excavated in Thatcham

This drill bit is made from iron and is known as a ‘spade’ bit due to the shape of its cutting head.  It was discovered during the excavations of the Roman Settlement in Thatcham Newtown that were undertaken throughout the 1920s and 1930s.
