An oval iron plate with inscription ‘COTTRELL & Co, No. 311, THE “CLIMAX”, HAY, CORN AND STRAW ELEVATOR, EDDINGTON IRONWORKS HUNGERFORD BERKS’. A local trade directory records Cottrell & Co as: iron founders, millwrights, agricultural implement and boiler makers; patentees of the ‘Climax’ folding elevator and prize medal engines and water carts. This nameplate was found at the rear of the back garden of Froude’s Cottage, Bucklebury Village, Reading, which lies adjacent to farm land.
