These pine cone scales were among many objects excavated by John Wymer in the 1950s from a site at Lower Way. The Kennet Valley is nationally important for the Middle Stone Age; as well as containing many flint knapping sites, the peat here preserves rarer organic material that tells us about diet and environment as well as being dateable.
