These nails were discovered in the remains of a Roman settlement at Thatcham. The design of each nail is different as each had a different intended purpose. Excavations of Roman Settlement Thatcham Newtown were undertaken throughout the 1920s and 1930s along Ermin Street, the Silchester to Cirencester road, but with no evidence of any large buildings found.
