Certificate, Mentioned In Dispatches, First World War

Accession Number:

NEBYM:1933.1

Framed certificate dated 9 March 1919 presented to Corporal (Acting Sergeant) TM Morris Royal Engineers recording that he had personally been Mentioned in Dispatches by General G.F. Milne KCB, KCMG DSO.  Prior to the First World War, Corporal Morris had served as a member of the volunteer battalion of the Royal Berkshire Regiment.

The term Acting Sergeant is given to a Corporal who has taken on the role and responsibilities of a Sergeant to see if they are able to meet the demands of the rank.  Those that do are promoted to Sergeant, those who cannot remain a Corporal, their service record remaining clean as officially they were not demoted from Sergeant to Corporal.
