Cavalry Helmet

An iron helmet with a broad rim and decorative brass top. This helmet was a type used by the cavalry who fought in the English Civil War. The bracket on the front would have held a turn-screw allowing the nasal bar to be adjusted. Newbury saw two battles in the Civil War, the First Battle of Newbury was fought on the 20th September 1643 and the Second Battle of Newbury was fought on the 27th October 1644.
