This etching shows the old Guildhall in Newbury that was built in 1611 in the Market Place. The building had a number of civic functions including serving as a prison. After falling into disrepair the building was demolished in 1823 with part of the site it stood on being used for the Corn Exchange. On the roof of the Guildhall you can see the weathervane with its dragon pointer that now sits on the roof of West Berkshire Museum.
