This wooden bowl was made by George Lailey (1869–1958), a wood turner who lived in Bucklebury. George Lailey produced many bowls, using a traditional pole lathe, mostly out of elm wood. This bowl is an example of what is sometimes called treen or treenware. Treen refers to any hand made object such as bowls, tools or boxes that are made from wood.
