Watercolour titled ‘Solitude’ by John Macintosh, circa 1900. Landscape showing the River Kennet east of Newbury, Hambridge area. Macintosh was a landscape painter specialising in Berkshire views. He fostered art in the county and co-founded the Newbury Art Society. Macintosh exhibited at Royal Academy and was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists 1889-1904. Macintosh had a studio at Woolhampton and a large clientele of students.
