Watercolour of a Sit Down Demonstration, Greenham Air Base

Accession Number:

NEBYM:1998.85.5

Watercolour by Marjorie Heather, 20th century. A view of a sit-down demonstration outside Greenham Air Base. Uniformed policemen are gathered around a group of protesters, one of whom is carrying a banner reading ‘NO US BASES HERE’. Removal vans are parked behind. This painting is likely a depiction of the 1978 protest associated with USAF’s proposals to reactivate the base for 15 large KC-135 tanker planes.
