Schlee was educated at Rugby School, where he won both the gold and silver under-18 awards of the Royal Drawing Society, and University College Oxford (English). Whilst living and working in London he studied part-time at the Central School of Art and Design, the Slade, Morley College and Putney College of Art. Schlee also studied at the Art Students League in New York.
